Better Than Botox
Botulinum toxins are extremely popular among individuals who want to regain or retain a youthful appearance, with more than 1.7 million injections in the United States each year.
These endotoxins work by paralyzing the muscles of the face that cause your skin to wrinkle when you make facial expressions.
The most popular Botulinum Type injectable globally is undoubtedly Botox, but Dysport has gained popularity in recent years.
While they are similar in some ways, some dramatic differences between the two make Dysport stand out.
Dysport works more quickly than Botox, causing paralysis and muscle weakness faster, which means wrinkles, lines and creases stop sooner.
Benefits of Dysport
The benefits of Dysport include:
Anti-Aging. If you’re looking for a way to reverse or prevent the signs of aging from settling in, Dysport offers a non-invasive way to combat wrinkles, sagging skin, fine lines and crow’s feet.
Forehead Lines. As we age, parallel vertical furrows can form between the eyebrows, causing you to look angry or worried when you’re not. Also, the skin around your eyes can wrinkle and contribute to an “angry face.” Dysport can stop the muscles in your forehead from moving to cause forehead lines.
Forehead Wrinkles. In addition to lines on your forehead, forehead wrinkles can also develop due to age, stress, frowning or furrowing your brow. Dysport temporarily paralyzes the muscles in your forehead, preventing forehead wrinkles and frown lines from forming when you frown or scowl.
Deep Furrows. As we age, our skin loses moisture, contributing to the wrinkles and deep lines known as deep furrows. Repeated sun exposure can also contribute to deep furrowing. Dysport can help prevent deep furrowing by temporarily stopping your muscles from moving.
Brow-Lift. Are you noticing that your eyebrows are sagging? If you want to give them a little lift, consider a brow-lift procedure with Dysport to smooth and tighten the brows, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and regain a more youthful appearance.
Frown Lines. Dysport can also help treat lines that develop vertically across your forehead. These lines are also frequently referred to as “worry lines” or “quotation marks.” In addition, Dysport can help keep your forehead smooth and lessen the appearance of lines between your brows.
Downturning Mouth Corners. The natural effects of gravity that impact the face and cause wrinkles, lines and creases can also pull the corners of the mouth downwards. The impact of downturned mouth corners can make you look older or sad. Dysport can help reverse the effects of aging on the mouth. Dysport can also improve the appearance of smokers’ lines that develop around the mouth from years of smoking. These lines typically form vertically above and below the lips.
Getting Dysport Injections
During the injection procedure, Dr. Peterson will inject small amounts of the neurotoxin using a very fine needle into your facial muscle to prevent muscle contraction, helping to smooth out the skin.
The Dysport injection treatment should take about 10 minutes, and most patients report little to no discomfort during their treatment.
Patients should see a dramatic reduction of wrinkles, lines and creases in the skin soon after application when weak muscles are unable to move and make facial expressions that cause wrinkles.
Some people report feeling a slight stinging during and after their injections. But, there is no need for icing or numbing the area before treatment for most people. In addition, the majority of people do not need pain relievers after their injection.
Are There Any Side Effects or Risks to Dysport?
In rare cases, some patients experience some minor side effects after their Dysport injection, but for many, taking steps before the procedure may alleviate the risk of these side effects after the procedure.
Some Dysport patients experience these common side effects after their injections: swelling, bruising, redness or numbness, and pain at the injection site.
To reduce the chances of these effects, you should avoid aspirin, non-steroidal inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroids and supplements including fish oil and vitamin E. Let Dr. Peterson know what prescription drugs you are taking, if any.
While there has not been a link found between congenital disabilities and Dysport, women who are pregnant or nursing should wait until after giving birth and breastfeeding to have the injection.
Is There Downtime After Dysport?
With Dysport injections, there is no downtime. You will be able to resume your routine after your treatment.
How Long Until Dysport Results Are Noticeable?
You should see the results in two to four days, with the most noticeable difference on the third or fourth day. Peak muscle weakening will occur around day seven, when your results will be at their maximum effect.
Is Dysport the Same Thing as Dermal Fillers?
Dysport is different from dermal fillers because it paralyzes the muscle to smooth out wrinkles and prevent wrinkles from forming, while dermal fillers fill in areas where the skin has lost volume.
