Consider These Questions

So, you’re ready to make a move. That’s great! We know it has likely taken awhile to come to your decision, and you’ve probably put a lot of time, effort and research into the process. So, we congratulate you on getting this far.

But, the work isn’t done yet. After you’ve selected the “right” plastic surgeon for your breast implant augmentation procedure, you still have a few more things to do. One of those things is the consultation process. This is a critical step you shouldn’t skip – and you should steer clear of any plastic surgery provider who doesn’t want to sit down with you.

We’ve put some questions together for you to ask your plastic surgeon at your consultation.

1. Are you board certified?

Choosing a plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery means that you are in the best trained and safest hands possible. Board-certified plastic surgeons will have the critical knowledge and experience you need for your breast implant augmentation. Board certification also means that the surgeon has stayed up-to-date about cutting-edge innovations, techniques and technology thanks to rigorous annual continuing education and testing requirements.

2. Where will my operation be performed?

Board-certified plastic surgeons should be able to perform surgery at an accredited ambulatory surgery center, hospital or another accredited surgical facility. Why is this important? Because state-of-the-art facilities will be equipped to handle complications if they arise.

You should also ask if your plastic surgeon works with a board-certified anesthesiologist, too. The anesthesiologist will help oversee the surgery, administer anesthesia and monitor you while you are under anesthesia.

3. What size implants are the best for me?

Breast implant augmentation is a personal decision and so is selecting the size of implant you want. Lots of input will go into the decision – from both you and your provider – of what size implant is best for you and your body type.

During your consultation, your plastic surgeon should take exact measurements of your chest and use these measurements to give you a recommendation on what size implant is best for you.

Some plastic surgeons have implant sizers available for you to try on during your consultation, which allows you to see what shape and size implant gives you your desired results.
