Stuck at Home? These Skin Care Routines Can Perk Things Up!

Although being home all the time can feel boring and you may be itching to get back to your routine, there actually are a lot of positives to being stuck at home. One thing to consider is trying out a new skin care routine. Adding new things in your skincare routine can be tough because you never know how your skin type will react to something new. It could be game-changing or it could cause your skin to break out or have a bad reaction. Being stuck inside gives you a chance to take your skin care routine to a whole new level. Here are some tips you can try:

Wash or cleanse your skin daily

If you are not going out a lot or not wearing as much makeup, it may seem like you don’t need to cleanse your skin as much, but taking a break from cleaning your skin is always a bad idea. Even at home, there is so much dirt, oil, and grime that can stick to your skin and clog your pores. Be sure to use a gentle cleanser that works for your skin type.

Moisturize Daily and Apply a Protective Antioxidant Serum

Moisturizers should be used daily to keep healthy and radiant skin. Even if you have oily skin, you still need moisturizer. Dehydrated skin can lead to inflammation, cause premature skin aging, and breakouts. When your skin is dry, your body creates more oily. Not using moisturizer leads to dehydrated and unhealthy skin.  If you are worried about your face getting too oily try products made for oily skin types. Antioxidant serums can help prevent your skin from future damage while also helping to repair the damage that’s already there. Antioxidants limit the production of free radicals that damage the skin. They can protect against environmental and UV damage, and they can brighten up a dull complexion. Colorescience Pep Up Collagen Renewal Face & Neck Treatment is a great product for both moisturizing and antioxidant serum.

Apply Sunscreen Daily

Sunscreen may seem like a step in your skin care routine that you can just skip over, especially when it’s not summer time, but did you know that applying sunscreen each day can cut your risk of skin cancers in half? Wearing sunscreen also helps to prevent sun spots, the loss of skin elasticity, and hyperpigmentation. We recommend a physical sunscreen with SPF 50 even if you are inside all day. When implemented into a regular skin care routine, this can be both a corrective and protective product. Some products we recommend are the All Calm Clinical Redness Corrector for red corrections or Even Up Skin Spot and Pigmentation Corrector for brown corrections both by Colorescience. Both have SPF 50 as well as corrective ingredients. If you’re looking for a sunscreen and moisturizer in one, Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield with SPF 50 also by Colorescience is a great product as well.

Exfoliate Twice a Week

Exfoliating regularly is an important part of preventing and treating breakout. Exfoliating works by removing dead skin cells which allows your pores to absorb nutrients and makes your skin smoother. It can unclog pores and make pores appear smaller by refining the top layer of your skin. It can also help other skincare products penetrate deeper. Many people exfoliate before doing a face mask to make sure they are getting the full benefits of the product. Be careful with exfoliating. Exfoliating too much can damage your skin, but how often you can do it without damage depends on what type of exfoliator you are using. Be sure to only use a facial exfoliator on your face. Body exfoliators are meant to be much harsher and can damage your facial skin.

Use Retin A

Being at home is a good time to apply Retin A more heavily than usual to mimic a chemical peel. Retin A is a form of vitamin A that helps the skin renew itself and can sometimes treat acne. It is mainly used to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles and skin discoloration. It can be damaging if used too often and if used with certain medications and products so be sure to consult your doctor first.
