11 Lines- That Dreaded Forehead Number

Forehead wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial expressions and activities like smiling, talking and blinking. They develop most commonly during middle age, but they can start much earlier. 11 lines are the two wrinkles between your eyebrows that visually form the number eleven.

Forehead wrinkles can also be caused by other factors, including genetics, sun exposure, aging and muscle contractions from scowling, squinting and even raising your eyebrows. Additionally, when we age, collagen production slows down, leaving our skin less elastic, which means the potential for deep forehead wrinkles and facial creases.

There are many things you can do to minimize the appearance of forehead wrinkles and restore your youthful appearance. Here are some of the best ways to smooth out those frustrating creases.

Moisturize

Moisture is key to keeping skin looking youthful. Try to keep your face hydrated throughout the day, especially around your eyes and forehead. This includes drinking plenty of water and applying moisturizer every morning and night. You can even use a hydrating mask once a week to help reduce signs of aging.

Exfoliate

If you notice dry patches on your forehead, it could mean that your pores are clogged. To clear up blocked pores, try exfoliating twice a month. Use a gentle cleanser afterward. Note: If you’re using an abrasive scrub, make sure to rinse well after each use.

Reduce Stress

Stress causes our bodies to produce more cortisol, which makes us look older faster. Relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga can help reduce stress levels.

Avoid Smoking

Smoking damages collagen in your body, making your skin appear less elastic. It also increases the risk for premature wrinkling.

Protect Yourself from UV Rays

Sunlight accelerates the aging process, so avoid spending too much time outdoors without sunscreen. Look for one with SPF 30 or higher.

Eat Right

Eating well-balanced meals and a healthy diet will give you energy and keep your skin looking its best. Include foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges, strawberries, broccoli and spinach. We also recommend that you keep your skin hydrated to keep it smooth and supple.

Dysport

Dysport is an injectable treatment that works by relaxing facial muscles. It has been shown to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and requires no downtime.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is a Botulinum toxin type A injectable used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the brows (glabellar lines). These lines occur when the muscles responsible for frowning become weak over time.

How Does Dysport Work?

When injected into the upper part of the forehead, Dysport relaxes these forehead muscles and helps them return to their normal position. Over time, this reduces the appearance of frown lines.

Who Should Consider Dysport?

You may consider Dysport if you have moderate to severe frown lines. Your doctor will determine whether Dysport is right for you based on several factors, including how deep the lines are and how noticeable they are.

Is Dysport Safe?

Yes! Dysport is safe for all ages and does not cause any serious side effects. However, there are some precautions you should take before having the injection. Talk to your doctor first if you have any allergies to medications or latex. Also, tell him or her if you have had any reactions to previous injections.

How Long Does Dysport Last?

After Dysport is administered, results typically last anywhere from three months to one year. Some patients experience longer-lasting results.

Dysport vs. Botox

While both Dysport and Botox work similarly, they do differ slightly in terms of what they target. Dysport is ideal for temporarily freezing the muscles responsible for frown and forehead lines, while Botox is great for treating crow’s feet lines.

Some individuals develop a resistance to Botox, which can mean Botox isn’t as effective anymore. As Dysport is formulated differently, you’re less likely to develop antibodies that neutralize the neurotoxin.

Dysport is highly effective in treating dynamic lines caused by laughing, frowning and wrinkling the brow in the forehead and other facial areas, including:

  • Forehead
  • Near the nose
  • Corners of the mouth
  • Crow’s feet
  • Sagging neck skin

Dysport Downtime

There is no downtime associated with Dysport. You can go back to work immediately after the procedure.

We do recommend that you:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for a few hours after your treatment.
  • Skip facials and saunas for a day or two.
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the area for at least four hours after treatment.
  • Do not lie face down for at least four hours after your Dysport injection.

After your treatment, it’s also a good idea to practice your facial movements such as frowning, squinting and smiling to move the serum into the treatment area.

Can Dysport Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Yes. We often combine Dysport with other treatments like laser treatments such as resurfacing and skin tightening as well as chemical peels to achieve even better results.
