Back That Thing Up and Read This

There are no ifs, ands or buts about it: Buttock-augmentation procedures are on the rise. More people than ever are trying to get a bigger butt, and like Sir Mix-A-Lot, we cannot lie about that. (Everyone remembers that song, right?!) But, are buttock augmentations all they’re cracked up to be? (Sorry, we had to!)

Why Are Buttock-Augmentation Procedures in Demand?

Everyone wants to look like a Kardashian, of course! Well, not really, but many people choose to undergo the buttock-augmentation procedure because they are not happy with the shape or size of their backside for whatever reason. The procedure is one of the fastest-growing plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States and includes both fat-transfer and implant procedures. However, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, fat transfers are more popular.

Why Are Fat Transfers Preferred for Buttock Procedures?

One of the reasons fat transfers are preferred for buttock augmentation is that the results are better. This is because, although changes are seen immediately after the procedure, the results continue to improve over time – up to a year later. Another reason is that the procedure, also known as the Brazilian Butt-Lift, helps kick the body’s collagen-producing cells into gear, which helps to lift the butt. Finally, the fat-transfer procedure takes fat you don’t want from one body area and puts it in an area you do want it. That sounds like a win-win-win.

But What About Implants?

While some people still want implants, there are some things to take into consideration before making a final choice:

Go too large and you will regret it. While you might think the Nikki Minaj look is for you, an implant that is too large may mean complications such as incisions that split after surgery or implants that shift under the skin.

Implants could mean infection. Since the incision for the implant is placed in the natural crease of the buttock, the risk of infection is increased.

You will feel like you’re sitting on the implant. Well, because you are. After a butt-implant procedure, many individuals report feeling uncomfortable after sitting for long periods.
