Don’t Fear Forehead Wrinkles

You probably experience a range of emotions every day, and with that, you probably make a range of facial expressions. According to a 2014 study from The Ohio State University, humans can make 21 distinct facial expressions that convey happiness, sadness, surprise, shock and anger. These expressions also cause your forehead to wrinkle temporarily, but over time these temporary lines can develop into permanent creases. Dr. Peterson can help keep your forehead wrinkle-free through skin-rejuvenating treatments.

Facial expressions are only one factor that leads to the development of forehead wrinkles. Other causes include:

Stress and Lifestyle Factors. Stress can lead to forehead wrinkles because it has a negative impact on your skin. Stress causes the body to produce high levels of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline, which cause collagen to break down and skin to become less elastic. Stress can also lead to premature aging when it disrupts sleep. For many people, stress also leads to skin-damaging bad habits like smoking, increased consumption of alcohol and a poor diet.

Sun. Sun damage is also a major contributor to developing forehead wrinkles and wrinkles on the face. The sun’s UV rays break down collagen and elastin fibers in your skin, which means that your skin loses the ability to stretch and retract over time. Using a broad spectrum sunscreen can protect your forehead and face from sun damage and wrinkles.

Dehydration. Skin that lacks moisture damages and creases easily. Not only should you drink plenty of water, but you should also use a high-quality moisturizer with hyaluronic acid to keep your skin cells plump.

Aging. Aging causes changes in skin quality and loss of fat volume, and also weakens your facial muscles over time. These circumstances contribute to the development of forehead lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers used in combination with Botox can help fight against aging but won’t leave you with a “frozen” face.

Genetics. You can inherit a genetic predisposition for wrinkles from your parents or grandparents just like you can inherit freckles, hair color or eye color. Unlike some of the other causes of forehead wrinkles, you cannot do much about your DNA, but you can schedule an appointment with Dr. Peterson to erase the signs.
